Robin Griffin is a gutsy but inexperienced detective called in to investigate the case of a young girl who is discovered pregnant and then goes missing. An expert in child protection, Robin is based in Australia but has come to Queenstown, New Zealand, to visit her ailing mother. She is also returning to a place where she endured traumatic events, years ago. Robin embodies a series of dichotomies: she’s very smart and yet naïve; she’s strong but vulnerable, she’s learned a lot but remains emotionally damaged. Although she has become an accomplished detective, Robin discovers she can be brought to her knees by her past, by what she has denied and is hoping to forget.
